Threesome in the Dark
Something amazing happened this week. Something of Biblical proportions…
On December 1st, 2008; The moon, Venus, and Jupiter gathered together in the night sky to form an unhappy face.
Here is a shot I snapped with my Canon (without a tripod). You can see the moon in the top left, Venus is the lowest light, with Jupiter on the right.
Oh… and the Biblical part… Just a theory… Quote from National Geographic
In fact, some historians think that a similar conjunction between Jupiter and Venus in 2 B.C. may be the source of the "star of Bethlehem" story related in the Bible.
The stellar pair would have appeared so close together, scholars think, that they might have seemed to meld into one brilliant beacon of light.
I know, this does not impress some of you… but it was pretty cool for me and the kids. Thanks Jennifer for calling us on the phone to tell us about it!

I saw that! (I shouldn’t get so excited there, sorry.) I pointed it out to my son who was just in awe. I wasn’t sure which planets they were, I’m glad you clarified it. My son (10) “went to school” when we saw that and started trying to figure out which planets they were based on something that 10 year olds figure out in their head with the images from their books. Which is closer that sorta thing. He had fun!
I wasn’t aware of the theory though, but i must say it’s a bit of an interesting theory.
Oooo, kinda sends chills up and down the spine, doesn’t it?
I totally forgot to check it out on Monday night. Glad to see pics on the internet though they don’t do it justice.

Well I for one was very impressed and happy that I was able to see the planets for two nights. I heard it won’t happen again for a very long time. It is fascinating to learn about the stars and planets.
