Everybody sing...

B... I... B... L... E...
That's the book for me!
I stand alone on the Word of God
B... I... B... L... E...

Ok.. enough singing... (you will be singing that the rest of the day).

I want need a new Bible. I have a New King James Study Bible, which I love... It is a great Study Bible but is HUGE!

The Bible I take to church is a smaller NKJV but it is coming apart.

So, I am looking for a new Bible. Considering ESV, The Message, or NIV translations (leaning toward ESV).

I even found this great tool (mybibleversion.com) to try and help me... Still unsure...

I would love to hear what my subscribers/ blog guests use for their Bibles.

Requirements:

  • A Christian Bible :-)
  • Physical Bible... no electronic stuff or Bible on CD/tape
  • One that reads well (so King James & Young's Literal Translations are out)
  • Either personal or thin-line sized
  • Leather/ imitation leather (soft back)

Please leave me a comment if you have any good suggestions. (and please explain why).

Hey Chris. By the way, thanks for including me on your links.

My favorite most of the time is one that has both The Message and NIV. It is imitation leather bound -- blue and brown. And not really big or heavy.

I really like reading The Message but then I like to compare it back to something different to try to see which seems to apply better to my life.

Take care!

I love the King James because it is the closest translation to the original scripture... and you know how I LOVE THE MESSAGE, but the Bible I use the most is the NIV. When I am doing an indepth Bible Study, I use all three.... God can speak to you from any or all of these!!

Chris, the version that I like for just reading is the Holman Christian Standard Bible. It reads easily to me (but I grew on the old KJV..lol) It seems to hold true to meaning that the KJV tries to convey. I’ve read some versions where I’d go – “That’s not what that means at all!”..lol

Why don’t you look at a bible that has several different translations? I do not have one, but would like to. Just a suggestion, but it is probably thick.

Never tried the ESV, but I'm a big fan of the NASB. It reads really well and from what I understand it's one of the most accurate and literal translations out there.

NASB is the most accurate translation as I understand it too...
